Eligibility to apply

Am I eligible to apply for the fund?

You can check your eligibility for the fund you would like to apply for here.

Does a parent/guardian have to apply if the applicant is under 18?

Applications must be submitted by someone over the age of 18. A parent or guardian will need to complete the application on behalf of someone aged under 18. Please note that coaches and other associated adults can not apply on behalf of a player. The applicant should be a parent or guardian.

Who from a club can apply for the The Phil Hancey Community Fund – Clubs?

Any recognised member of the committee or an employee of the club can apply for the fund. We recognise that clubs are run and structured in different ways and if you would like to discuss who should apply from your club, please contact participation@englandsquash.com

My club isn’t affiliated, can we apply for the fund?

No. Only affiliated clubs can apply. For details on how your club can become affiliated to England Squash, please see our affiliation page here.

We are a leisure facility with squash courts, can we apply for the fund?

Yes, any affiliated club or facility can apply. For details on how your facility can become affiliated to England Squash, please see our affiliation page here.

For clubs applying to The Phil Hancey Community Fund – Clubs, what safeguarding measures need to be in place ?

Clubs must have in place a welfare officer who is qualified with an in date and valid DBS check and Safeguarding qualification. The welfare officer must be listed on the club’s England Squash dashboard – to update your club dashboard, follow the process here.

The application form

How do I apply?

Applications to The Phil Hancey Squash Fund are made online via the application form, the application form can be found here. No other form of application can be considered.

When should I apply?

You can apply at any time, England Squash, the England Squash Foundation, Aiimi and Phil’s family will assess all applications on a regular basis and follow up with all applicants after their application has been assessed.

Is there someone I can contact before I submit my application?

Is there a deadline for applications?

Applications can be made at any time. England Squash, the England Squash Foundation, Aiimi and Phil’s family will assess all applications on a regular basis and follow up with all applicants after their application has been assessed.

How will my application be assessed?

A panel consisting of representatives from England Squash, the England Squash Foundation, Aiimi and Phil’s family will assess all applications. Only applications that meet the fund criteria will be considered, you can find the criteria here.

When will I find out if my application has been successful?

We will contact all applicants as soon as possible after each panel meeting.

My club want to do more than one project, can we submit more than one application?

Clubs can make 1 application in any 12-month period if their application is successful, or a 6-month period if a previous application was unsuccessful.

The Fund

How much can I apply for?

Applications can be made for any amount, up to the maximum application amount for each fund. For The Phil Hancey Talent Fund the maximum is £500, for The Phil Hancey Community Fund – Clubs, the maximum amount is £500 and for The Phil Hancey Community Fund – Individuals, the maximum amount is £100.

How much might I be awarded?

If successful, you can be awarded up to the full amount you apply for. The awarding panel will review all applications and award funding as they deem appropriate. This means that you may not be awarded the full amount you apply for.

Are there things you don’t fund?

What are the terms and conditions for the fund?

If successful, how will I receive the fund?

Details of how each successful applicant will receive their award will be discussed after the panel have made their assessment.

If successful, will I get the full amount I asked for?

Award amounts will be decided by the awarding panel. This may mean that you don’t get the full amount you request in your application.

Successful applications

Will I need to prove to England Squash that I have spent the fund?

Yes, we will expect evidence to be provided of how the award has been spend. This should exactly match the original application.

If my application is successful, do I need to report back to England Squash?

If your application is successful and you receive an award, we would like you to write a short blog or video documenting how the fund has helped you. We would use such testimonials to demonstrate the impact of the fund and to encourage others to apply.

Unsuccessful applications

How soon can I reapply?

Applicants can make 1 application in any 12-month period if their application is successful, or a 6-month period if a previous application was unsuccessful.

My application has been rejected, can I apply for the same project?

Yes, you can apply again for the same project.

Can I get feedback on my application?

No feedback will be given on unsuccessful applications. If you would like to discuss your application idea before applying, please contact performance@englandsquash.com for the Phil Hancey Talent fund, or participation@englandsquash.com for the Phil Hancey Community Fund.
