Coach of the year

Awarded to a coach of any level who has made an impact over the last 12 months on people/players, a club/venue or a community.

Scored by:

1. Key achievements over last 12 months.

2. The impact the coach has had on a player or a group of players, the club, venue, or the community.

3. Evidence of increased participation across the club/venue or amongst a particular community.

4. Example provided they meet one of the four England Squash values: Adventurous, Driving, Connecting and Together.


Young Volunteer of the year

Awarded to someone under the age of 19 who has made an active contribution to the community via volunteering within the past 12 months. Whether they helped set up for a session or assisted in delivering an event, the work a club's young members is crucial to it's success.

Scored by:

1. The role the volunteer played /plays, where the volunteering takes place and the hours contributed per week.

2. Examples of how their voluntary work benefits the club / venue, the organisation, or the community.

3. Examples of going above and beyond to help where possible.

4. Example provided they meet one of the four England Squash values: Adventurous, Driving, Connecting and Together.


Volunteer of the year

Awarded to a volunteer of any age who gives their time and has had a positive impact on the club, squash players and/or the local community.

Scored by:

1. The role the volunteer played /plays, where the volunteering takes place and the hours contributed per week.

2. Examples of how their voluntary work benefits the club / venue, the organisation, or the community.

3. Examples of going above and beyond to help where possible.

4. Example provided they meet one of the four England Squash values: Adventurous, Driving, Connecting and Together.


Club/Venue of the year

Awarded to a club or venue that made a significant impact or contribution to squash participation over the last 12 months.

Scored by:

1. Success across the different types of activity on offer.

2. Number of players across different categories: junior, adult, women and girls, disability etc.

3. Key achievements in the last 12 months, funding, club development, increased participation, volunteer development, new audiences engaged e.g. disabled people, ethnically diverse communities or women and girls.

4. Example provided they meet one of the four England Squash values: Adventurous, Driving, Connecting and Together.

5. Example provided on how the club has enhanced their local community and grown participation e.g. delivering squash activity to help more of the community getting involved in squash.

6. Evidence of the club making changes and becoming more sustainable, for example, how have they adapted to the current ecological crisis.


Referee of the year

Awarded to an England Squash referee who has shown commitment to the sport and performed their role to their greatest ability.

Scored by:

1. Referee worked on a minimum of 4 events for England Squash during 2022.

2. Example of the referee showing commitment to the sport and their role as a referee.

3. Example of referee going above and beyond in the role as a referee.

4. Example provided they meet one of the four England Squash values: Adventurous, Driving, Connecting and Together.


Rising Star of the year

Awarded to one boy and one girl, both under the age of 19 who has shown great potential and growth over the last 12 months.

Scored by:

1. Success across the different types of activity on offer.

2. Examples of how they have improved over the last 12 months.

3. Example of how they have met adversity to develop

4. Examples of demonstrating the highest on and off-court behavior

5. Examples of their aspirations within the sport

6. Example provided they meet one of the four England Squash values: Adventurous, Driving, Connecting and Together.


Moment of the year

To celebrate some of the best moments from 2022, the squash community can vote for who you think should win the England Squash Award 2022 - Moment of the Year from the following shortlist.

1. Team England's Gina Kennedy becomes the first Englishwoman to lift Commonwealth singles gold at Birmingham 2022

2. Team England win men's doubles gold and silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

3. Team England lift the Men's World Junior Team title for the first time since 2000

4. England’s Finnlay Withington captures World Junior silver

5. Team England capture double gold at the European Men's and Women's Team Championships
